On August 10th, we celebrated NLM Photonics’ 6th anniversary! 

As we reflect on the journey that took us from a dream in the chemistry labs at the University of Washington to today, we are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. NLM is changing the game in integrated photonics for datacom, quantum, and beyond.

We want to thank everyone who’s come along on this adventure with us, from our stellar team (current and former members), forward-thinking investors and advisers, innovative partners, and anyone else who ever took the time to listen, dispense wisdom, grant us grace, geek out on the science, or generally cheer us on. We appreciate every one of you. Thank you for believing in us! 

Brief highlights from 2024 (so far!) 

This year, we welcomed industry veteran Brad Booth as our new CEO. His leadership heralds a new era of NLM, built on our foundational science, ever-improving R&D, incredible partnerships, and commitment to meeting industry needs. We also welcomed Vijay Raghavan as fractional CFO and received our first financial venture capital investment from Pack VC. 

We received contracts from NASA and AFWERX to design and fabricate chips at AIM Photonics and evaluate our technology for those government agencies. We have seen great results from the designs developed for our NASA project, and we’ve just kicked off our $1.8 million AFWERX contract. 

We’ve now occupied our offices and lab spaces at the CoMotion startup hub on the University of Washington campus for over a year. This home has further expanded our capabilities with fully NLM-dedicated spaces, connecting with other local startups and being conveniently above the Washington Nanofabrication Facility for access to state-of-the-art tooling.   

Entering an NLM revolution 

NLM tackles the bandwidth and power efficiency needs of AI and other demanding applications. Combining chemistry and chip design, we add new capabilities to silicon photonics and other platforms. Our electro-optic modulation technology provides seamless and efficient data transfer, and our team is unparalleled in talent, drive, and generosity of spirit.
